Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

This study aims to determine the role of Islamic boarding schools in improving the religious understanding of students, supporting factors and inhibiting the role of the Ar-Rahman Lembung Barat Lenteng Sumenep Islamic boarding school. The role of Islamic boarding schools is very important for humans and especially teenage students today, especially in improving religious understanding because in this modern era there are still some teenagers who do not understand religion so that they make wrong choices in choosing friends that make parents anxious and worried. Based on temporary data in the field, one of the problems in improving the religious understanding of Ar-Rahman students is laziness and lack of enthusiasm in learning.

This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data sources include two types: First, primary data, obtained directly from the research subjects through interviews with the caretakers of the boarding school, administrators/ustadz, and students. Second, secondary data sources include notes, drawings, and photographs from the secretary. Data collection methods included interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used in this study included data collection, data reduction, and data presentation.

Research findings: The role of the Ar-Rahman Islamic boarding school in enhancing the religious understanding of Ar-Rahman students is to shape a young generation with religious character. The boarding school's role is also as an educational institution, a social institution, and a religious dissemination institution. Supporting and inhibiting factors in the boarding school's role in enhancing the religious understanding of Ar-Rahman students include the supportive factors when the administrators and students work together in carrying out boarding school activities, and the inhibiting factors are the students' laziness in learning.
